Have you always wanted to learn to quilt, but didn’t know where to start? Or do you have a friend who would like to learn? We have started IN PERSON Learn to Quilt classes… details below.
Sunday, Sept 25, 2022, 1 to 4 pm Learn to Quilt – Cut and Sew with Adele Gataveckas
Adele Gataveckas is a very experienced and skilled quilter and teacher, and has instilled a love of quilting to many of us who came to the guild as beginners. Many of us have gone on to take all 4 levels in her Learn to Quilt series! Here, she has created another entry point to join her workshops in exploring the world of quilting.
Spend a few hours brushing up on your rotary cutting and machine piecing skills before going on to take other quilting classes or workshops. Students will cut and piece a 12” block while focusing on proper technique and safety. Layering, basting and quilting will be demonstrated.
Prerequisite: No previous experience needed.

You will learn all the basic piecing units needed to build blocks as well as play with the colour and value of your fabrics. You will explore the idea of a random block setting for your quilt and practice working intuitively. Your quilt will be a unique reflection of your own likes and choices. Students must have their own sewing machines and rotary cutting equipment for both in class and at home use.

Prerequisite: Learn to Quilt 1 or Learn to Quilt – Cut and Sew or previous quilting experience.

You will learn the correct way to add butted, pieced and mitred borders to your quilts and learn how to choose the best style and size of borders for your design. You will learn how to estimate the yardages needed for purchasing fabric. You can choose to make the sample quilt, Modern Basket Medallion, or work on designing your own medallion quilt.
