Information for Entrants

When does Quilt Fever happen?
The show takes place on Friday March 28 and Saturday March 29, 2025.

Who may enter the show?
All guild members are encouraged to enter their work in the show regardless of their level of quilting experience.

Are group quilts allowed?
Yes, although all quilt tops should primarily be the work of one or more EQG members. The contributions of all quilters (including long arm quilters) must be acknowledged on the entry form.

What type of quilts can I enter?
We are able to accept any of the following quilted items: quilts, art quilts, quilted items such as pillows, garments and table runners. Items displayed in previous Quilt Fever shows are not eligible.

How many can I enter?
There is no restriction on the number of items that you may enter. However, gallery space is limited. We try to ensure that at least one entry is hung from all members who enter a quilt. We will ask you to rank your quilts on the entry forms as to which one would be your first choice to be hung. Subsequent entries will be selected for hanging based on both the space available in the gallery and as well as to provide sufficient entries for the professional judging option offered to members. You will be notified well in advance of the show if we are unable to hang any of your entries.

May I enter my quilt for sale?
Yes, you must agree to allow your name and email address to be given to buyers. Any sale of an item in the show galleries is subject to a 15% commission fee to NPCC. If your item is sold during the show, you agree that NPCC will collect payment and that they will arrange for the pickup of the item by the purchaser in a timely fashion. NPCC will issue payment to the Quilt Fever Committee chairperson within 21 days of the show. The chairperson will then distribute cheques to the entrants.

Is there a fee to enter my quilt?
There is no charge to enter your quilt in the show. However, those members who choose to enter their quilts or art quilts in the professionally judged during the show will pay a $5 entry fee per quilt.

What if I don’t want to have my quilt professionally judged?
That’s perfectly ok. Just select “No” when asked on the entry form.

What is involved in the professional judging process?
We have 50 spaces allotted for those who wish to have their quilt professionally judged. The guild offers judging as an opportunity for members to gain insight into their quilt’s strengths and also to receive suggestions for areas of improvement. This is done in a positive and balanced manner. Entrants who choose this option will receive a written critique of their quilt.

Who is this year’s judge?
This year our judge will be Canadian Quilters Association certified judge, Karen Menzies.

Are there categories for professional judging?
Yes, this year the professionally judged categories will be as follows.

  • Hand applique
  • Machine applique
  • Hand or machine piecing
  • Hand quilting
  • Machine quilting by domestic machine (throat space < 18”)
  • Machine quilting by long arm machine (done by quilt top maker)
  • Surface design and/or embellishment (fabric dyeing, painting or manipulation, hand or machine embroidery, thread painting, beading, etc)

Members can choose to be considered in up to 2 of these categories per quilt on the entry form.

Are there awards given for the professionally judged quilts?
Yes, there is a ribbon given for the top quilt in each category as well as a $50 prize. An honourable mention in each category may be awarded at the judge’s discretion. There must be at least six quilts entered per category for an award to be given.

Are quilts not entered for professional judging eligible for any awards?
Yes, you may choose to be considered for the following awards. Viewer’s Choice Awards are chosen by our show visitors. The top 5 quilts selected will each receive a ribbon and $50.

First time entrants, may choose to be considered for a First Time Entry Award as selected by a panel of three individuals associated with EQG. The prize for this will be a ribbon and $50.

You may also choose to be considered to receive the Canadian Quilters Association Award ribbon as the best quilt in the show. This quilt will be chosen by a panel of representatives from other NPCC guilds and staff. The winner of the CQA award will also receive $100 and have a photo of themselves with their quilt shown in the CQA magazine.

If I enter a quilt in the show, must I volunteer?
We do ask that members entering quilts find a way to volunteer during the show in some capacity.  A member of the show Volunteers portfolio may be in contact with you to best see how you can help.

Will my quilt be photographed during the show?
Your quilt will likely be photographed by many show visitors. Additionally, your quilt may be photographed by EQG and may then appear in future EQG promotional materials and online content.

Is my quilt insured during the show week?
No, neither Neilson Park Creative Centre nor the Etobicoke Quilters’ Guild shall be held responsible for any theft, loss and/or damage to any article submitted to this show. We recommend that you contact your home insurance provider to see if they are able to give you coverage.

How do I find the entry form?
The entry form is found at the following link as well as on the EQG website. All entries must be submitted online. You must submit one form for each item that you wish to enter. Please print a copy of your forms and keep for your own reference.

Do I have to submit a photo with my entry form?
A digital photo of your quilt is required for show planning and will not be used for any other guild purpose. This photo may be of a completed quilt or work in progress. Please send your jpeg image file as an email attachment to Adele Gataveckas at eqgquiltfever@gmail.com.

What is the deadline for entry forms?
Your entry form must be received by January 24, 2025.

Does my quilt need a hanging sleeve?
Yes, your quilt will require a 3” hanging sleeve stitched to the back. If your quilt is wider than 90”, please divide the sleeve into 2 or 3 separate segments to allow us to add additional support to prevent the quilt from sagging while it is on display. Instructions can be found at the following link. If your quilt has special hanging requirements, please contact Adele Gataveckas at eqgquiltfever@gmail.com to discuss your needs. See information on the hanging sleeve requirements here

Do I need to label my quilt?
Yes, for identification purposes, each entry must have a cloth label attached to the back lower reverse of your quilt showing your name and the title of the entry. This may be a temporary label attached with safety pins. Do not use straight pins.

Is there any other preparation needed?
Your quilt should be crease free. Also, please ensure that your quilt is free from all pet hairs and odours.

When and where should I drop my quilts off at NPCC for the show?
Quilts can be dropped off from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday March 24th. You must sign your quilts in with a Hanging Portfolio representative. A table for this purpose will be set up at the west main gallery doors. If you are planning for someone other than yourself to pick up your quilts for you after the show, please leave a signed written authorization for this purpose with a volunteer at the table. No quilt may be removed during the course of the show.

When must I pick up my quilts after the show?
The show will close at 4:00 pm on Saturday. All quilts must be picked up between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm on Saturday March 29th. Quilts will be signed out by Hanging Portfolio volunteers once all quilts from both the hall and the main galleries have been taken down and accounted for. Only Hanging Portfolio volunteers are permitted to take down quilts from the gallery walls and racks.
