As one of the oldest quilting guilds in Canada the Quilt Fever 2025 Show featured an amazing display of colour and talent from traditional to modern quilts and quilt art.
Winners – Professional Judging
Hand Applique

1st – Val Catford – My Flower Garden
I had never used Kaffe Fassett Fabrics before. However I thought his very colourful and unique designs would be perfect for Kim McLean’s pattern.
I chose a navy tone on tone fabric as background to further enhance the colour and design.
Piecing Hand or Machine

1st – Sandy Beintema – Parquet Star
I named this quilt Parquet Star because it reminds me of an old worn wood floor. This quilt went through many transformations and possible design ideas before it became this. Made entirely from stash (some donated) I am pleased to say I have used up my warm “carmel” colored fabric. It was foundation paper pieced on diamonds made for another project. You can read about it on my blog Scrappy Gal Quilt Co.
Hand Quilting

1st – Miyuke Hamade – Hexie Flower Garden in Navy
I used my old scrap except outer borders and backing fabrics.
I cut many paper templates from the cereal boxes because I only had limited readymade plastic ones.
Domestic Machine quilting

1st – Claire Franceschetti – We All Fit Together
This is a joyful celebration of diversity uniting to create a beautiful whole. Together, over a thousand scrap pieces used in the quilt top and binding. The quilting was fun and chopping the corners off was so liberating!
Long Arm Quilting

1st – Anne Elise Alexander – Amish Welsh Inspired
This is close to a whole cloth quilt, inspired by the large Amish and Welsh historical colour block quilts. The fabric is Dutch reproduction polished chintz. The computerized quilting patterns are mostly by Keryn Emmerson. The wool batting makes the quilting show up well and the quilt nice and warm.
Surface Design / Embellishment

1st – Kathy Anne Kidman – Joy of Colour
This quilt is a celebration of colour, texture and tradition. Combining pieced blocks with intricate wool appliqué. The outer border, created using the ‘Flowering Snowball’ template, adds a rhythmic, floral movement that ties the design together. Each stitch reflects a love for bold colour.
Gratefully acknowledging the many donations of fabrics and of time, from Studio C.
Winners for Canada Quilters’ — CQA award

Adele Gatveckas – Monty and Grandpa and the Dark Dark Woods
My grandson, Monty and my husband are two of a kind and are happiest when on the move. Exploring the woods is one of their favourite pastimes.
1st time entry quilt

Celia Fernandes – Spring at the Lake
Spring at the Lake is a vibrant quilt inspired by the renewal and beauty of springtime at a serene lakeside. The design captures the awakening of nature as the chill of winter, represented by the expanse of white, gives way to the warmth of the season. Soft pastel blues, greens, pinks and yellows dominate the quilt, mirroring the clear skies, fresh grasses, and blooming flowers that surround the lake.
Viewers’ Choice
1st – Elizabeth Kwadrans – My Mom’s Rose Garden
2nd – Karen Cooper – Scrappy Dreams
3rd – Janice Telfer – Screen Time
4th – Zildi De Michele – Owl and Hare Hollow
5th – Susannah MacRae – Elegance on Point
